Tottenham Hotspur legend Kyle Walker has recently opened up about his transfer in 2017, which saw him leave North London to join Man City. He spoke about his experience with Mauricio Pochettino, which might shock Tottenham fans.

The truth is that despite both parties going on to represent league rivals, Tottenham fans still hold a respect for both Kyle Walker and Mauricio Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino managed Tottenham between the years of 2014-2019. Since leaving Tottenham, he has managed Chelsea and now the USMNT.

Kyle Walker played for Tottenham between 2009-2017, so there was a three year overlap which saw him work with Mauricio Pochettino.

That said, what is the story which Kyle Walker shared about his eventual Tottenham Hotspur transfer?

According to Kyle Walker, there was no anomosity when he left Tottenham to join Man City. In fact, the England international recalled feeling a sense of respect for how former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino dealt with his departure.

Speaking about transfers on the You'll Never Beat Kyle Walker podcast, Walker said: “I kind of knew that [Mauricio] Pochettino’s mind was going in a different direction, that it was leaning more towards [Kieran] Trippier."

Walker continued: "But I went up to the manager and said, ‘I’m not in your plans, am I? And he said, no. He’s going to push more for Trippier next season. So I said, ‘Please can I go?’ And he said, ‘Well, I won’t stand in your way.' That was it. There was no hard blood. There’s no bad feelings or anything. He was just honest and I respect him so much for that."

We live in a world whereby football is beginning to merge with entertainment. Therefore, it is easy to forget that players and managers are humans too with human relationships.

Despite football fans' love for drama, it is nice to hear that Mauricio Pochettino treated the departure of Kyle Walker with respect and was straightforward with him about his plans.

This allowed both parties to focus on what was important to them: Kyle Walker left the club to secure game time, whereas Mauricio Pochettino was able to focus on Kieran Trippier's development.

Kyle Walker is remembered well at Tottenham Hotspur. Despite achieving more success at Man City, he will be remembered by Tottenham fans as a Tottenham legend for all the memories he provided.
