Needless to say, there will be changes at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 2024/25 season. Ange Postecoglou made it known to the media towards the tail-end of last campaign that he is unhappy with the foundations of the club, so improving the squad at surface level could be a good place to start. It is particularly needed after losing their Champions League spot to Aston Villa.

As the old saying goes "if you can't beat them, join them". This could be what Ange Postecoglou has in mind, as he plans to enter discourse with former Arsenal manager Unai Emery over a potential swap deal.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Spurs are currently "exploring a player-plus-cash deal" for Jacob Ramsey of Aston Villa. It is believed Ange Postecoglou will offer up Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight to lessen the transfer fee for Jacob Ramsey but Daniel Levy will still be required to cough up some funds.
Jacob Ramsey has had a good trajectory with Aston Villa and he has shown significant improvement under Unai Emery. Last campaign, he was relatively injury-struck, meaning he spent more time on the treatment table than the pitch. However, there are still shades of light there.
Jacob Ramsey's Premier League stats
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
2023/24 | 16 | 1 | 1 |
2022/23 | 35 | 6 | 7 |
2021/22 | 34 | 6 | 1 |
2020/21 | 22 | 0 | 0 |
As shown above, throughout Jacob Ramsey's career, he has shown significant improvement and he is adding more productivity in front of goal and in terms of creativity to his game. Last season was not fair to Ramsey, as he only made 8 starts in the Premier League, being injured for much of the season. Next time out, he will be eager to improve and get back to his best.
At Tottenham, there would be an even playing field for Jacob Ramsey to prove himself. Ange Postecoglou is known to be a great producer of young talent, so for Ramsey to spend his prime playing days in North London would be beneficial for all parties.
However, there is the obvious question of Champions League football. It could be argued that Lo Celso would be getting the better end of the deal here, joining a Champions League side next season, whereas Ramsey would be demoted to Europa League football. Still, Ramsey does not strike anyone as the type to kick up a fuss about superficial competitions.
Do you think this is a good swap deal idea from Ange Postecoglou?
