Tottenham Hotspur are active in the summer transfer window. While fans are not yet entirely pleased with the calibre of their signings, Ange Postecoglou certainly has a vision for the future. If those displeased fans were unhappy with the "name" of the players Spurs have signed, then they will be glad to know that Tottenham are now linked with a Premier League rival's midfielder.

According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham Hotspur would like to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United. The Scottish midfielder is also linked with a move to Fulham, and his rumoured price tag is around £40m.

Scott McTominay could struggle for game time next season, as Erik ten Hag plans to revamp his entire squad. Manchester United had an underwhelming last time out but given Ten Hag's commitment to stay at the club, it's a sign that he has a long-term plan. McTominay is not in the long-term plan and is up for sale by Manchester United, hence the interest from Tottenham and Fulham.

If he joined Tottenham, McTominay would become the third midfield signing secured by Tottenham this summer. They secured a deal for Lucas Bergvall ahead of time and recently added Archie Gray into the mix as well.

Scott McTominay would likely play in a more advanced role than the two other newcomers, so there shouldn't be any interference there. McTominay has proven a knack for scoring important goals for both Man United and Scotland, a goal-scoring midfielder is what Tottenham have been lacking so this would be a welcomed attribute.

It goes without saying that Tottenham are more financially-incentivised to sign Scott McTominay than Fulham are. However, the competition should not be undermined. After all, Manchester United will have the unconscious bias to sell to Fulham, since they are not a direct Premier League rival like Spurs. Therefore, Daniel Levy and co must be productive in these transfer negotiations.

It is unlikely that Tottenham will sign both Scott McTominay and Conor Gallagher. Partly due to financial reasons but mostly due to them playing in similar positions. Therefore, should Spurs opt to sign Scott McTominay, then he would act as a Conor Gallagher transfer alternative. After all, the Gallagher case has proven difficult to break down over the last few weeks of Tottenham trying.
