Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou made a superb claim about Brennan Johnson after the match against Ferencvaros amid criticism of the Welsh winger.

Tottenham Hotspur secured an important victory in the Europa League, but the spotlight after the game was on Brennan Johnson, as manager Ange Postecoglou offered high praise for the in-form winger.

Johnson, who has been in excellent form in recent weeks, scored the decisive goal in Spurs' 2-1 win over Ferencvaros, continuing his impressive run.

It was a challenging night for Spurs in Hungary, with Ferencvaros pushing Tottenham to the limit. The hosts caused plenty of problems for Postecoglou’s men, and had it not been for a marginal offside decision in the first half, the outcome might have been different.

Despite the pressure, Spurs managed to get the job done, thanks to goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson.

Sarr gave Tottenham a first-half lead, but Ferencvaros kept fighting, making it a tense contest. As the second half progressed, Spurs struggled to find a second goal to secure the win, until Postecoglou introduced Johnson late in the game.

The Welshman made an immediate impact, scoring the winner just four minutes before full-time.

This marked Johnson’s fifth goal in five matches, a remarkable achievement considering the criticism he had faced earlier in the season.

Since deactivating his social media accounts to avoid online abuse, Johnson’s performances have gone from strength to strength.

Postecoglou, speaking after the match, expressed confusion over the previous doubts surrounding Johnson, pointing to his consistent stats and influence on the pitch. In words transcribed by football.london, the Spurs boss said:

"He’s in a great vein of form right now. He’s really confident. They thrive on that sort of stuff, but his numbers have always been good. "

"I was always curious as to why he was singled out because his numbers were always good when stacked up against the other wingers. Now he’s probably ahead of them with his numbers."

Johnson’s self-belief and confidence have been clear in recent matches. The winger is playing with freedom and creativity, unafraid to take risks and make things happen on the pitch.
