Three clubs set to start bidding war for Tottenham defender
By Manuel Meza
Recently, on “PSR Deadline Day,” some interesting developments for Tottenham Hotspur fans have emerged. David Ornstein reported earlier that Tottenham is in negotiations with Leeds United for the transfer of teenage midfielder/defender Archie Gray, potentially hijacking Brentford’s bid for the player.
Now, Alasdair Gold from football.london has brought more news. Newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town has reportedly issued a “verbal offer” to purchase Spurs’ want-away central defender Joe Rodon.
Joe Rodon spent last season on loan at Leeds United, where he was a key player for one of the Championship’s top teams, despite their failure to secure promotion to the Premier League. Rodon’s performances have clearly caught the attention of multiple clubs, including Ipswich Town and Leicester City, both of which have been recently promoted to the Premier League.
Rodon is seen as a solid option for bottom-half Premier League teams but is not in the plans of Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. This makes his departure from Spurs almost certain. The interest from Ipswich and Leicester is promising for Tottenham, as it suggests a higher chance of securing a favorable transfer fee.
Having three teams interested in Rodon is beneficial for Tottenham. Ipswich and Leicester’s Premier League status makes them more attractive options for the defender compared to Leeds, still in the Championship. This competition could drive up the transfer fee, which would be advantageous for Spurs as they look to offload players not in their plans for the upcoming season.

Rodon’s potential transfer is a reminder of the sheer finality in football, similar to Didier Drogba’s decisive penalty in the 2012 Champions League Final. Such moments carry immense pressure and significance, reflecting the complex, overlapping histories within the sport.
For Tottenham, moving Rodon and others not expected to feature this season is crucial. The deal does not have to be completed today; paperwork submitted by the deadline can still count towards the 2023-24 fiscal year for PSR purchases. However, it would be beneficial for Spurs to finalize these transfers promptly to focus on strengthening their squad.
Should Tottenham push harder to finalize these deals quickly, or take their time to secure the best possible outcomes?
