Football Transfers (Transfersdotcom) is reporting on Twitter that Tottenham are preparing a bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

It was this week confirmed that Toney would be in the England squad for the European Championships, joining former Spurs striker Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa.

After an initial burst of form upon return from his eighth-month suspension for gambling, Toney struggled for form to finish the season.

However, it cannot be denied that when at his best, Toney is a very good Premier League striker. In the 22/23 season, Toney fired 20 league goals in 33 appearances, helping fire Brentford to a 9th-place finish, just one place and a point below Spurs.

Tottenham preparing bid for England striker?

The striker has only one year remaining on his Brentford contract, and on numerous occasions has been quite outspoken on his desire to take on a new challenge. So if these reports are to be true - it would appear that Brentford are reluctantly willing to sell their talisman for less than they'd have hoped in an attempt to make sure they don't lose him for nothing next summer.

Toney is known for his link play and ability to hold the ball up, two facets of the game that Spurs have perhaps lacked at times this season. He is a dominant aerial threat and could give Spurs a much-needed added threat from crosses and set-pieces.

There is of course the fact he is homegrown, and with the likes of Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga departing, a number of homegrown additions will be required this summer.
