Spurs loan watch: Stalemate for Tottenham loanee
By Tom Vinall
On Wednesday night, Bryan Gil's Girona took on Rayo Vallecano at home in their second midweek La Liga fixture of the season. With their first European campaign kicking off last week away to Paris Saint Germain, which they lost very late on in the game, the schedule is becoming quite intense for Gil and co.
As a result, there has been rotation, and the weekend's defeat to Valencia was Gil's time to start from the bench. For this game, however, the 24-year-old was back in the side for this game. On this occasion, manager Michel went with Gil on the left-hand side of a 442 setup.
It was a pretty dull affair. In the first half, there had been a solitary shot, for either side, although Gil's teammate Yaser Asprilla should have scored it from close range. After an hour of the game, Girona had had three shots, whilst their visitors still hadn't had a single attempt of their own, with former Spurs goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga merely a spectator.
Update on things for Bryan Gil over at Girona in La Liga
After 67 minutes, Gil was replaced by former Spurs man Arnaut Danjuma, after the opposite had happened in the defeat to Valencia. In truth, it was a pretty unassuming display, where the winger had zero shots, created zero chances, and completed zero out of three attempted dribbles. It has, in the most part, been a relatively lowkey loan so far for the on-loan Spurs man, with just one goal and zero assists in eight outings so far.
It ended in a stalemate, despite some serious late chances for the hosts, and just two shots all game for Rayo Vallecano. This result leaves Girona 12th in the La Liga table, though there are still teams to play this game that have games in hand, including Alejo Veliz's Espanyol.
Next up for Gil and his Girona counterparts is another La Liga game this weekend, where they will face Celta Vigo. The game is on Sunday, with kick-off being 13:00 BST.
