As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are prioritising the signing of Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra and are ready to push ahead with an offer in January.

They report that the midfielder's performances over the last 18 months have caught the attention of numerous clubs in Europe, and Spurs are now ready to 'step up their pursuit'.

They explain that Spurs are keen on adding to their midfield engine room, which marries up with several previous reports and links to other players.

Spurs are expected to send a bid for the midfielder during the January transfer window. Valencia are said to be asking for 35 million Euros, which equates to around 29 million pounds - a fee that is described as an "obstacle" for the club, but there is belief that a "middle ground" can be agreed.

Valencia have had to sell players for less than optimal fees in the past due to their financial issues, with Peter Lim having ran the club into the ground over a prolonged period of time. Lim's stewardship of the club has been so poor, that the Spanish side have not been included as one of the host grounds for the 2030 World Cup, despite the rich footballing history of Valencia as a club and city.

So, hopefully for that sort of reason - a middle ground can indeed be found, should a deal happen for the 21-year-old. He is contracted until 2027, so next summer, he will only have two years left on his deal - if a deal does not happen in January, a deal in the summer could be viable.

So, who is Javi Guerra? He is an energetic, tall (6'2) midfielder who offers tenacity whilst also being good on the ball. He made his debut for Valencia in the 22/23 season, though the last campaign was his breakout season - playing 36 league games, with 28 being starts. He contributed four goals, whilst making 4.9 ball recoveries per game.

He is a Spain U21 international, with nine caps to date. Out of his 67 senior career appearances so far, 59 have been as a central midfielder. Whilst he is clearly a player capable of winning the ball, you feel that a natural six would be more useful for Spurs, considering it can be argued that all three of Archie Gray, Yves Bissouma, and Rodrigo Bentancur are better as central midfielders than pure defensive midfielders.
