On Tuesday afternoon, Son and his South Korean counterparts picked up a very important win as they ran out 3-1 winners away to Oman in Asian World Cup qualifying. They had only managed a draw at home to Palestine last time out, so a win here was massively needed and they managed to do so.

The Spurs captain was deployed in the number 10 role in a 4231 setup for this game by manager Myung Bo Hong, with Hee-Chan Hwang of Wolves playing on the left-hand side this time. It seemed to work, as just ten minutes into the game, Son found Hwang from around 25 yards out, and the Wolves man scored with a fierce shot from range.

It was not all sunshine and rainbows, however, as their hosts levelled the game on the stroke of half-time, courtesy of an own goal, and South Korea would have to find a way to make sure it was not points dropped in consecutive games to kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Big win for Heung-Min Son and his South Korean counterparts

It took a while, but they did. With just eight minutes of regular time remaining, Son scored with a left-footed strike from just outside the box and gave his side the lead for the second time in the game.

Then, in injury time, Son teed up late substitute Min-kyu Joo to make it three goals and three points and secure a vital win in World Cup qualifying. This win leaves South Korea second in their qualifying group, with four points from their first two games - level on points with Jordan and Iraq.

Unfortunately, we did not see any minutes for Yang Min-hyeok again this time, though he was included in the matchday squad for this game, unlike for the draw against Palestine, so it seems like he is getting closer to that debut for the national team.
