Simon Mullock of the Sunday Mirror is reporting that Spurs are in pole position to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

He said, "Liverpool's reluctance to make the deal happen quickly has opened the door for Spurs, who watched Geertruida regularly last season and are hoping he opts for them instead of Paris [Saint-Germain]".

As touched on above, Liverpool had strongly been linked to the defender, although there had been claims that these were lazy links, just because he was managed by new Liverpool manager Arne Slot at Feyenoord over the past few seasons.

A versatile defender, Geertruida is capable of playing as a Centre-Back and as a Right-Back. He is suited to playing Right Centre-Back in a back 3. The Dutchman is extremely quick and is also very comfortable on the ball.

Like Micky Van De Ven, Geertruida is currently away with The Netherlands at The European Championships. Also like Van De Ven, he has struggled for game time. He was an unused sub in the opening game victory over Poland and played 17 minutes off the bench in the 0-0 draw vs France on Friday.

Geertruida had an impressive offensive return for a defender in the Eredivisie last season. He scored 8 goals and provided a further 5 assists. (SofaScore).

The Dutch defender only has one year left on his remaining contract in Rotterdam so could be available for a modest price. Being Dutch, Geertruida is an English speaker so may need less time to settle in than other imports.
