Spurs defender finally close to leaving
By Tom Vinall
Spurs Right-Back Emerson Royal's transfer saga might finally be coming to a close. Fabrizio Romano has said that AC Milan "keeps working with confidence" on a deal to sign Emerson from Spurs.
He also said that AC Milan's initial proposal was less than 15 million euros, whilst Spurs have requested over 20 million. The next one is "expected to be higher" per Fabrizio.
Lastly, he said that Emerson had signed a 5-year contract in May, so the Brazilian defender is clearly very keen on the move.
This is backed up by his quotes to Rio De Janeiro-based newspaper Globo, whom he told "I want to play on a regular basis, I don't want to sit on the bench. I've always been professional but I also told the coach at Spurs that I want to play, otherwise I have to look at other options. AC Milan? It is a reference for all Brazilians."
Emerson struggled for game time last season, as he alludes to above, featuring in 22 of 38 Premier League games last season, and starting just 11. A handful of those was only because he was having to fill in as a makeshift left-back and center-back too.

This saga with Milan has been ongoing for a while now, and the sooner it is sorted the better for everybody. Emerson has reported back for pre-season training at Spurs, seemingly in good spirits, but it is important that everybody moves on and everybody can move forward with clarity.
In fact, regarding just Emerson and AC Milan, this has been four years in the making. His agents met with the management of Milan all the way back in the summer of 2020.
Emerson missed out on Brazil's Copa America squad despite their shortage of full-backs, and will know that playing games regularly will be the first step to getting himself back in future squads.
