Tottenham Hotspur's approach to midfield reinforcements seems to have shifted significantly. Initially, there was considerable buzz surrounding the potential addition of an energetic, forward-thinking midfielder, especially after the departures of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

However, recent developments suggest that this is no longer a priority for the North London club.

The Athletic reports that even though Tottenham have lost some important midfielders, they’ve changed their approach to transfers. They were previously eyeing Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, unfortunately, for the second consecutive transfer window, Tottenham were unable to secure Ramsey’s services.

Another name that was mentioned in connection with Spurs is Conor Gallagher of Chelsea. Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is reportedly a big admirer of the 24-year-old. Gallagher’s all-action style and relentless work rate would have been an excellent fit for Postecoglou’s high-tempo system.

However, despite the interest, no formal approach was made for Gallagher this summer, and the player ended up signing for Atlético Madrid.

With just over a week left in the transfer window, it appears that even the pursuit of an energetic box-to-box midfielder is no longer a priority.

This change in direction is apparently due to the emergence of two young talents: Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. Both players have impressed Postecoglou and his coaching staff during pre-season and the early stages of the Premier League campaign.

Bergvall, a Swedish prospect, is expected to serve as James Maddison’s understudy this season. His technical ability and composure on the ball make him a promising option in the attacking midfield role.

On the other hand, Archie Gray, who joined from Leeds United, is seen as a versatile player who can cover multiple positions in midfield. Gray’s adaptability and tactical intelligence have made him a valuable asset to the squad.

With Maddison, Bergvall, Bissouma, Gray, Sarr, and Bentancur, Tottenham now have six players vying for three midfield spots. This depth has seemingly alleviated the urgency to bring in another midfielder before the window shuts.

Even so, the possibility remains that Tottenham could revisit this area in the January transfer window, especially if the team finds itself in need of fresh legs during the grueling winter period.

Postecoglou has been clear in his vision that rebuilding Tottenham is a long-term project. The Australian coach understands that transforming the squad will take time, and while the current crop of midfielders shows promise, there is always room for further improvement.
