Tottenham captain Son Heung-min’s future has been a topic of discussion recently, with his contract set to expire in June 2025.

However, a new report has shed light on where the Spurs star will be playing after that date, following his press conference ahead of Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League opener against Qarabag.

According to The Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to activate a clause in Son’s current contract that will extend his stay by an additional year, securing his services until June 2026.

This extension ensures that Son, who has become a symbol of the club, will remain in North London for at least one more season.

The one-year extension will mark Son's 11th season with Tottenham, a club he joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for around £22 million. Over the years, he has become a key figure at Spurs, making 414 appearances and scoring 164 goals.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Son addressed his current contract situation. While there have been no talks of a longer-term extension, his focus remains firmly on delivering silverware for the club.

“We haven’t talked anything yet. It was very clear for me, I’m very focused on this season. At this age, every second is like a goal,” Son said.

He emphasised his determination to win a trophy, adding, “I just want to win something that everybody in this club and these players and all around deserves. That’s what I’m working for.”

Despite this dedication, Son’s future has sparked contrasting opinions. Former Tottenham player Jamie O'Hara recently claimed that Son is “finished” at the club, suggesting Spurs should start looking for a replacement.

However, this view does not reflect the sentiments of the majority of Spurs fans, who still see Son as an icon and an invaluable player.

With his contract extension on the horizon, Son’s got another shot at further solidifying his legacy at Tottenham. As captain, he'll play a crucial role in Spurs' hunt for silverware this season and beyond, staying loyal to the club he’s called home for almost ten years.
