Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vušković has received plaudits for his performance on KVC Westerlo debut.

Vušković, still just 17 years old, has joined Belgian Pro League side KVC Westerlo on a season-long loan deal, before he joins Spurs next summer, in a deal reportedly worth around £12 million. He spent the second half of last season in Poland on loan at Radomiak Radom, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.

A central defender, Vušković stands at 6'4 tall. He has been capped by his native Croatia at U15, U16, U17 and U19 level, the latter he currently plays for, with 5 caps to his name.

Vušković was born in Split and came through the academy of the local side Hajduk Split, to which Ivan Perišić has just joined. He made his debut in February 2023, just two days after his 16th birthday, becoming the joint youngest player in Croatian top-flight history, which was a surprise.

Just three days later, Vušković scored in a 2-1 Croatian football cup victory, despite being just 16 years and 5 days old.

It was the perfect start for Vušković in Belgium, with a solid individual performance and for him and Westerlo to start with 3 points, 3 goals, and, notably, a clean sheet.

Vušković's statline against Cercele Brugge included: 15 clearances, 8 headed clearances, 1 ball recovery, 4/5 ground duels won, 4/4 aerial duels won, 2 fouls drawn, 0 fouls committed, and 0 times dispossessed (SofaScore).

He impressed against Brugge forward Kevin Denkey, who has been linked with moves to the top 5 leagues, including Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leveruksen, and even Spurs. So he wasn't up against any old mug.

Vušković will be the sixth Croatian player to play for Spurs, after Vedran Corluka, Niko Kranjčar, Luka Modrić, Stipe Pletikosa and Ivan Perišić.

All being well, Vušković will showdown against Spurs greats Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweirels, who are still playing for Anderlecht and Royal Antwerp respectively. They would be pretty cool shirt swaps after the games.

Vušković and Westerlo next play away to Mechelen in the league next Saturday.
