With Oliver Skipp officially moving to Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur are making it clear they’re not planning to rush into the transfer market for a new defensive midfielder.

According to Dan Kilpatrick from The Standard, despite losing Skipp, Tottenham is not expected to pursue another "number six" before the transfer window closes.

Skipp’s move to Leicester was finalized after the 23-year-old passed his medical and completed a deal worth £25 million, including add-ons.

This transfer has been in the works for some time, with rumors and negotiations culminating in the recent agreement. However, what might surprise some fans is Tottenham’s decision not to seek an immediate replacement in the same position.

Instead, the club appears to be placing its faith in new signing Archie Gray. The young talent, who recently joined from Leeds United, has already caught the eye of Tottenham's manager, Ange Postecoglou, during pre-season.

Alongside him, Lucas Bergvall has also shown promise, leading the coaching staff to believe that they have enough depth in the squad to cover Skipp’s departure.

Kilpatrick suggests that Gray is even in line to make his debut against Leicester City, filling in for Yves Bissouma, who is serving a one-match suspension.

If Gray gets to make his debut, it shows just how much Tottenham trusts the 17-year-old. Having him in the squad really underscores the club’s plan to focus on homegrown talent instead of splashing out on new signings.

Tottenham’s midfield options don’t end with Gray. Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur are also capable of playing in the defensive midfield role, giving Postecoglou plenty of flexibility.

However, while the club seems content with its current "number six" options, there is speculation that they might still be in the market for a more dynamic, box-to-box midfielder.

Bergvall, another young prospect, has shown great potential in pre-season. However, it’s likely that Postecoglou will use him more as a creative midfielder or "number ten" this season, sharing the role with James Maddison.

Over time, as Bergvall matures, he could be transitioned into a deeper midfield role, providing yet another option for Tottenham in the future.
