Tottenham Hotspur's quest to find a top-tier striker has hit a snag due to a sell-on clause held by Liverpool, which could impact their pursuit of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

Despite a successful campaign last season, where Tottenham finished fifth in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou, the need for a world-class striker remains a top priority.

Solanke, who’s been playing really well for Bournemouth, is a top target for Spurs. However, Liverpool’s stake in his transfer makes things a bit tricky.

Solanke, who joined Bournemouth in January 2019, has been instrumental for the Cherries, scoring 21 goals last season, including 19 in the Premier League.

His impressive performances have made him an attractive option for Tottenham, who are looking for a striker who can not only lead the attack but also allow Son Heung-min to return to his preferred left-wing position.

However, Tottenham’s pursuit of the 26-year-old striker is complicated by Liverpool’s 20% sell-on clause. When Solanke moved to Bournemouth, Liverpool retained a stake in any future sale, which means they are entitled to a portion of the transfer fee.

This clause limits Bournemouth's flexibility in negotiating Solanke's departure, as they need to secure a significant sum to both satisfy Liverpool's share and achieve a profitable deal.

Bournemouth is reportedly adamant that they will only consider selling Solanke if their £65 million release clause is met. The presence of Liverpool’s sell-on clause means that Bournemouth must ensure they cover the amount owed to Liverpool and still make a profit.

This scenario makes it unlikely that Tottenham will be willing to meet such a high fee, particularly given that it would set a new club record.

In response to these challenges, Tottenham might explore alternative strategies, such as including players in a potential part-exchange deal. By offering players as part of the transfer, Spurs could potentially lower the cash component of the deal and test Bournemouth's willingness to negotiate.
