As far as Tottenham transfer news is concerned, or any transfer news for that matter, Fabrizio Romano is the go-to guy. Dubbed by many as the transfer expert, the journalist is always at the heart of transfer stories and he only posts credible updates since he isn't interested in clicks or any other motive.

This is why today's Tottenham transfer news update may be underwhelming for fans of the club, but it is still important to update nonetheless.

Fabrizio Romano shares underwhelming Tottenham transfer news with Frenkie de Jong

Speaking to Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano shared what he knows about the constant links between Tottenham and Frenkie de Jong. The Barcelona midfielder is believed to be wanted by Ange Postecoglou but as far as Fabrizio Romano is concerned, he doesn't look to be going anywhere for the time being.

Quoted by TBR, Romano had the following to say: “There have been lots of rumours about Frenkie de Jong lately guys, but I can tell you that Barcelona will try to extend his contract in the next months. They still believe in Frenkie and there’s no news on the player side so far regarding wanting to leave the club."

It remains to be seen whether the player wants to commit his future to the Catalan club, as not even Fabrizio Romano had much to say on the player side of things. Therefore, while there is still hope from Tottenham's perspective, it's not nice to hear that one of the club's transfer targets is subject to a contract extension at his current club.

For the time being, all Tottenham can focus on is having a positive end to the season. They are in good form, having not lost any of their last five Premier League games. They currently sit fourth in the table, which is in alignment with Ange Postecoglou's objectives. Furthermore, qualifying for the Champions League may be the difference which secures big players such as Frenkie de Jong.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou may have his ideal De Jong alternative lined up at Chelsea, of all clubs.
