Tottenham transfer news is difficult to come by at the best of times, let alone in February. However, manager Ange Postecoglou is not done with his legacy as he has big plans for the summer transfer window, which could include weakening a Premier League rival of Chelsea.

Well, a former Premier League rival. The blue side of London has been very quiet in recent seasons as it looks like our old friend Mauricio Pochettino is having a tricky time steadying the sinking ship. Regardless of their poor domestic position, though, everybody knows that Chelsea are a force to be reckoned with in the transfer market.

That said, Ange Postecoglou has a trick up his sleeve, which if executed correctly, could work in Tottenham's favour...

Tottenham transfer news as Ange Postecoglou targets Chelsea contract rebel

According to a report by The Telegraph, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou will make a move to sign Conor Gallagher this summer, if he doesn't sign a new contract between now and then. The England midfielder has just over a year remaining on his contract, meaning Chelsea may be forced to sell him for a reduced fee in the summer.

Gallagher is one of Chelsea's best players and Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the way he plays. A versatile midfielder who excels with the ball at his feet, he would fit in just fine in North London.

Despite the importance of Gallagher to Chelsea, his time at Stamford Bridge has always been in question. Not only when he was sent out on loan, but also in the previous transfer windows. Tottenham have been linked with the midfielder before but this summer might be the best time to land him as he looks likely to be pushing for a move by not signing a contract extension.

Tottenham hope to secure Champions League football next season by finishing in the top four of the Premier League. It is certainly achievable, given their great start to the season which sees them in a qualifying spot currently. If they achieve this, then Gallagher really has no reason to stay at Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have responded to claims that Ange Postecoglou might be in line for the Liverpool job, after Jurgen Klopp announced he is stepping down after this season. Read the club's stance by clicking here.
