Overlooked Spurs player is one game away from becoming a hero (and it's not Son)

Son Heung-min is the poster boy for Wednesday evening's Europa League final, and understandably so. The South Korea international has seen many great players come and go, many eras start and end, and many systems peter in and out.

Throughout it all, Son is yet to lift a single piece of notable silverware for Spurs. There's never been a player who deserves to lift a trophy more than Son, so all eyes will be on him on Wednesday evening.

However, the emphasis on Son is taking a deserved spotlight away from a different player, one who has been at the club for longer than Sonny; Ben Davies.

Forget Son, another Spurs star deserves his own European farewell

Davies is a Spurs icon and a long-time servant of the club. As it stands, he is the longest serving player at the club, but this won't be the case for much longer as his deal expires next month.

The Wales international has been in and out of the starting eleven for his entire Spurs career. However, he's never once complained about it. Instead, he's put his head down and sharpened up his toolbox, ready for when he's called upon.

And on Wednesday night, he might just be called upon. Whether from a starting position or from the bench, Davies is in contention to play. In fact, he's made 27 appearances across all competitions this season, so he's heading out with a bang.

Spurs fans only hope that he'll also head out with the one thing that's eluded him until this point: silverware.

It would be quite a fitting way for Davies to end his Spurs tenure, in what might be his final game for the club. Of course, there's the final home match of the season against Brighton, where Davies will surely be recognised for his tenure. However, it's essentially an exhibition game, so all eyes will be on Wednesday evening.
