It's almost a guarantee that Guglielmo Vicario will be returning to Italy this summer, but his exact destination remains unclear.

Tottenham are moving on from the Dionysian Italian after three years as the club's No. 1. A fine shot-stopper who immediately became a key figure in the dressing room, Vicario's form fell off a cliff after first breaking his ankle then playing through a hernia for far too long.

Still, he was the man between the posts for our wonderful night in Bilbao, keeping a clean sheet in the Europa League final to help the club to its first piece of major silverware in 17 years.

While Vicario was serviceable enough and certainly likeable pre-injuries, Spurs can no longer function with the former Empoli man as their starter between the posts moving forward. His chaotic footwork and general temperament render him a woeful fit for Roberto De Zerbi, who rightfully retained his faith in Antonín Kinsky when Vicario was available down the stretch.

Now, it's just a matter of where the Italian will end up.

Inter Milan set to back another goalkeeper to replace Yann Sommer

There was an expectation in the spring that Vicario would be off to Scudetto holders Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri are moving on from Yann Sommer, and had reportedly agreed personal terms with Spurs' No. 1, but they've since opted against signing the 29-year-old.

Instead, Inter have acquired Lazio's Ivan Provedel, who's expected to play in reserve to Josep Martínez.

The Spaniard has backed-up Sommer since arriving in 2024, but is set to step up to fill the veteran Swiss’ gloves. Martínez has made 10 Serie A appearances for Inter, having impressed for two seasons at Genoa.

Still, Vicario's market is still strong in his homeland.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via Football Italia), Inter's snub has pricked the ears of Juventus and Napoli, are have emerged as the leading contenders for the goalkeeper's signature.

Juve, though, are reportedly prioritising a move for Emiliano Martínez, while Napoli will only pursue Vicario if one of their goalkeepers, Vanja Milinković-Savić or Alex Meret, departs this summer.

With the signs pointing towards De Zerbi trusting Kinsky for his first full season in north London, it's paramount that the club finds a buyer for Vicario. Having a personality like that playing second fiddle wouldn't be ideal. He's good enough for a starting role somewhere, and De Zerbi can ill-afford to have a disgruntled No. 2 on his books.
