Although Tottenham Hotspur are winless through the first five games of the 2026/27 Premier League season and do not have a single attacking player on the team with a goal in actual league play, not everyone on the team has been poor to start the season.
Aside from defensive players like Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke and midfielders like Rodrigo Bentancur putting in quality starts to the campaign as Roberto De Zerbi's side dominate possession, Savio is quietly having a tremendous season on the wings.
The new signing from Manchester City was loved by Spurs for a year, and they finally agreed to spend the full 85 million pounds that the Citizens were looking for in exchange for the young Brazilian international, who was once a La Liga Player of the Season candidate during the 2023/24 campaign for Girona.
Savio is putting up some elite numbers
Only Lamine Yamal is averaging more dribbles completed and key passes per 90 minutes in Europe's top five leagues than Savio, who has been the Premier League leader in take ons per 90 minutes. The Brazilian forward is putting up three key passes per game and six combined fouls drawn and dribbles per game, and those are definitely elite creative numbers for a winger - even beyond what Mohammed Kudus was putting up last season.
But Savio's displays are going overlooked and underrated because all of his creation is not able to turn into goals as the forwards around him whose job it is to score have been so poor. Now, Roberto De Zerbi did challenge Savio to improve his own goal scoring, and while Savio still needs to work to answer that call, Spurs signed him to be the table setter.
Meanwhile, the two people brought in to score, Dominic Solanke for 65 million pounds in 2024 and Omar Marmoush for potentially about the same when 2027 rolls around, have been awful. Solanke isn't even in a situation where he can score goals because of his awful positioning, and he looks like the worst player on the entire Tottenham team. While Marmoush is putting in the work and looking dangerous, his final quality is seriously lacking, to the point where De Zebri has already been rethinking his status as a center forward.
Savio is unable to look as good as he is really playing because he is being let down by the players meant to make his take ons and creation bear fruit into goals and wins.
