On Sunday afternoon, Spurs welcomed Aston Villa to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, for game week ten of the Premier League season.

For the game, Ange Postecoglu went with a line up of; Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Sarr; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

In the early exchanges, Spurs had a lot of the ball, but with Villa sat in a compact shape. Ange's side were very intense with their press when the visitors did get the ball, though were committing a few fouls which allowed Villa to get up the pitch.

After 22 minutes, a long range effort from Bentancur had some dip to it, as it hit the roof of the net. That was as close as Spurs had come in the first part of the first half.

After half an hour, a swinging cross from Digne was met by Onana, whose header hit the upright. From the resulting corner, Spurs were once again left lacking, and this time they were punished - as Rogers tapped home the loose ball from close range.

With three minutes of the first half left, it should have been two. Rogers played Watkins through in goal, but the striker dragged his shot comfortably wide. Spurs very fortunate. Not having van de Ven's speed in the backline was really beginning to tell.

The sides would go into the break with Villa one goal to the good. A seriously awful first half. Void of any creativity whatsoever, and constantly vulnerable defensively whenever the visitors would spring a transition opportunity.

Three minutes into the second half, a sharp cross from Son towards the back post was expertly attacked by Johnson, who bundled the ball home, and made it 1-1.

Three minutes later, Son found Udogie inside the box. The Italian defender picked out Solanke, who forced a strong wrist from Martinez in the Villa goal - his first shot on target in seven outings.

Ten minutes into the second half, Richarlison and Bissouma replaced Son and Bentancur - assumably Ange is just managing the skippers minutes. You'd rather lose 35 minutes of Son than 3 weeks.

Around the hour mark, Romero picked up an injury - with Davies replacing him. Spurs are now without both of their first choice central defenders - just like this time last year.

Midway through the second half, Sarr went close to his second goal in as many games, as he cut in from the left side - but his powerful shot went a little wide.

With a quarter of an hour left, Kulusevski slipped Solanke through on goal, who cooly dinked the ball over Martinez to find the back of the net. It was a tight call after a VAR check, but the goal was given. Shoutout to Sarr for winning the ball back and stopping a Villa break at the start of the move.

Just a couple of minutes later, the same happened again. Sarr won the ball back in midfield to stop a potential break, drove forward, played the ball to Richarlison - who squared for Solanke to score. The work from Sarr may go unnoticed by some - but absolutely not from us.

Unfortunately for Richarlison, he did pick up an injury in the process of assisting the goal. A real shame for him after a great moment. Maddison replaced him, and Gray replaced Udogie in a double sub - with the 22-year old getting some much deserved and needed rest.

Six minutes into stoppage time - the Cherry on the cake was secured. Maddison clipped a free-kick from the edge of the box right into the top corner, with Martinez merely a spectator like the rest of us. Just so so good. Solanke did well to win the free-kick in the first place, too. What a game from him.
