Jose Mourinho aims to ‘rescue’ Tottenham player in January

Jose Mourinho wants to rescue a Tottenham Hotspur player and sign him for his Fenerbahce during the winter transfer window starting in January, according to a report.
According to recent reports from 90min, Jose Mourinho is plotting a move to bring one of his former Tottenham players to Fenerbahce in January.
The player in question is none other than Sergio Reguilon, a left-back whom Mourinho originally signed for Spurs from Real Madrid back in 2020.
Since his arrival in North London, Reguilon's career at Tottenham has taken a downward turn. The Spanish defender hasn’t featured for the club for over two and a half years, with his last appearance dating back to April 2022.
Following that, Reguilon has been on a series of loan moves, spending time at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. Despite showing glimpses of his talent at these clubs, he has struggled to secure a consistent spot back in Tottenham's plans.

With the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham's head coach, it appears Reguilon's future at Spurs is even less certain.
The Australian manager has favoured other options in the left-back position, including Destiny Udogie as the first choice, with Djed Spence often acting as his understudy.
In addition, players like Ben Davies, Micky van de Ven, and Archie Gray have all filled in at left-back when needed, further pushing Reguilon down the pecking order.
Mourinho, now in charge at Fenerbahce, reportedly sees an opportunity to revitalise Reguilon's career. The Portuguese manager is said to be keen on bolstering his defensive options in Istanbul, and bringing in a player he knows well seems like a logical move.
Mourinho's interest in the Spaniard suggests he still values Reguilon's potential to perform at a high level, even if his time at Tottenham has been marred by inconsistency.
The specifics of a potential deal remain unclear at this point. Reguilon's contract with Tottenham runs out next summer, which means in January, he’ll be entering the final six months of his agreement.
This could lower his price tag significantly, making him an attractive option for the Turkish side. However, there are no concrete details yet on the transfer fee that Fenerbahce might need to pay.
