Tottenham are pursuing Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White after striking a deal with West Ham for Mohammed Kudus.

Well, well, well. You know what they say: transfer bombas are like London buses, you wait so long for one then two come along at once.

The day after Tottenham's £55m agreement with West Ham for Mohammed Kudus was confirmed, an array of reputable journalists have revealed that the club's next move is to pursue Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White.

Outta nowhere.

It's the news you don't expect which hits the hardest, and I don't think any of us thought a move for Gibbs-White was on our agenda. But, let me tell ya, this Johan Lange fella works in the shadows.

Tottenham to make stunning move for Morgan Gibbs-White

The Athletic's David Ornstein was the first on it. He writes that Spurs are shifting their focus to Gibbs-White after striking a deal with Kudus, but says that no agreement has been reached with Forest or the player.

Ornstein's colleague, Daniel Taylor, who often covers Forest for The Athletic, rates the move as "likely".

The ubiquitous Fabrizio Romano chimed in, suggesting that Spurs have approached Forest and will soon make their opening bid. Sami Mokbel of the BBC understands that the "transfer is accelerating quickly".

All the big boys are in on this, and perhaps we will get this stunning deal over the line without much fuss. Forest, though, are likely to demand a hefty fee (£60m+) for the England international's services, having already agreed to the £52m sale of Anthony Elanga to Newcastle. There's some talk of Spurs potentially triggering a £60m release clause.

That's believed to be the sticking point, with Gibbs-White likely to be enticed by the prospect of Champions League football in N17.

So, what to make of it all, eh? On paper, the English playmaker is not necessarily a player Spurs require. Gibbs-White primarily functions as a No. 10, although he can perform a deeper-lying role and take greater responsibility in the build-up.

Thomas Frank has inherited a squad containing a pair of central playmakers in James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, although the latter will miss the start of next season due to a knee injury. The pursuit of Gibbs-White also suggests that Frank views Kudus primarily as a wide player.

The 25-year-old is a player the majority of us wouldn't have lost sleep over hadn't we signed him this summer, but now his name has cropped up as a likely wearer of the Lilywhite shirt, you can't help but be overwhelming excited for what Thomas Frank's Spurs are going to look like in year one.
