A collective performance so impressive rendered it difficult, or perhaps harsh, to offer any one Roberto De Zerbi's individuals loftier praise than the other, but it was impossible to ignore Conor Gallagher's influence on proceedings.

The January arrival has had a difficult time of it in north London, with Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor failing to maximise what they possessed in the relentless Englishman. De Zerbi, though, unlocked the most effective iteration of Gallagher at Villa Park.

In the absence of playmakers, our savvy new coach leaned upon the running power of Tottenham's engine room to suffocate and overwhelm Aston Villa, with Gallagher, performing the more advanced midfield role, leading the charge alongside the similarly indefatigable Richarlison.

It was his best work in Lilywhite, no doubt, and it'd have been our luck for Gallagher to succumb to some form of ailment in the aftermath. That's just the way it's gone in N17 this term. There have been suggestions of the midfielder carrying something, but Gallagher's knock won't deter his bid to keep Spurs in the top flight.

According to Football London, Gallagher is nursing a minor knee injury after last week's display, and was spotted with bandaging on his left knee in training ahead of Monday's game.

Encouragingly, his efforts didn't waver at Hotspur Way, with the knock seemingly not deemed serious enough to decrease the midfielder's workload.

Moreover, it wasn't brought up by De Zerbi during his recent session of lyrical waxing over the January signing.

"I'm happy, because I think from the perspective of Conor, he came in January in a difficult situation," the Italian said of Gallagher's time at the club so far.

"He had some problems at the beginning, physical condition, environment, to come and understand a different club, different style of play, different dressing room. He's an important player, the first level of the players.

"So, I'm happy to watch him in this condition, in this confidence, with these performances. I think, and I said after the game, when Gallagher plays well, his team plays with one player more than the opponent."

De Zerbi will be expected to opt for the same experienced triumvirate in his engine room on Monday night, even if a stubborn Leeds United team, now mathematically safe, offer a different threat from Aston Villa. Craft and invention will be require to bypass their sound defensive block, but Gallagher's threat from distance and box-crashing abilities could also come to the fore.

Moreover, there's a possibility of James Maddison earning his first minutes of the season.
