According to reports, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has already informed the board of his transfer needs for January.
Ange Postecoglou has reportedly informed Tottenham's board where he sees the club’s top priority in the January transfer window, as injuries have exposed some clear gaps in the squad.
The current injury list includes several key players like Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, Mikey Moore, and Richarlison.
This sudden wave of absences has left Tottenham looking a bit thin, especially in defence and attack, leading to fresh concerns about the team’s depth.
Ange Postecoglou tells Tottenham board which signing is needed for January
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Postecoglou has expressed a strong interest in securing a left-sided central defender in January.
This area of the pitch has become a concern, particularly with Van de Ven’s injury. Although the injuries aren’t all long-term, they’ve highlighted Tottenham’s vulnerability, especially if another significant injury were to hit the defensive line.
Reports indicate that the Australian manager was already eyeing a central defender before these recent injuries, but Van de Ven’s absence has now made it a clear priority.

With the January window approaching, a left-sided centre-back appears to be at the top of Tottenham’s wish list. Bailey explained in The Spurs News, “From what I’m hearing, a left-sided centre-back looks to be the priority, especially now with Van de Ven out. They’re short in that area, and they can’t afford another major injury.”
Currently, Ben Davies is the most reliable option to cover the left centre-back role in Postecoglou’s system. Known for his defensive awareness, Davies could be better suited to this position rather than playing as an inverted left-back.
But while he can provide decent cover, he’s more of a fourth-choice option than a long-term fix. This situation leaves Postecoglou in need of a more specialised addition to reinforce the backline and ensure stability in case of future setbacks.
Tottenham have reportedly found a target to boost their defence
With potential signings are being considered, one name that has popped up is Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.
The 20-year-old Danish defender has been linked with a move to North London recently, and his profile seems to match what Postecoglou is after, a young, capable left-footed defender who could potentially adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
According to The Mirror, Dorgu fits the bill and could be an ideal option for Tottenham as they look to shore up their defensive ranks.
In the meantime, Spurs will be hoping their current injury situation doesn’t worsen, allowing them to remain competitive until January, when Postecoglou can make the much-needed addition to his defence.
