Ange Postecoglou's Premier League return is imminent, with Nottingham Forest set to appoint the former Tottenham boss just three games into the new season.
Spurs learned first-hand about the circus up in Nottingham during the summer transfer window, as owner Evangelos Marinakis blocked our proposed move for Morgan Gibbs-White. It was a saga that some described as unlike anything they had seen.
Marinakis undeniably had something brilliant going on with Nuno Espirito Santo, as the Portuguese coach brushed off his forgettable stint in N17. He steered Forest to safety after taking over from Steve Cooper midway through the 2023/24 campaign, and subsequently guided them to seventh last season, playing an efficient brand of counter-attacking football.
Forest, thanks to Crystal Palace's demotion, are thus competing in the Europa League this term, and Marinakis, having curiously parted ways with Nuno due to the manager's rift with new Global Head of Football Edu Gaspar, is bringing in the manager who led Spurs to their glorious night in Bilbao.
Ange Postecoglou makes swift Premier League return after controversial sacking
🚨 Ange Postecoglou to be confirmed as Nottingham Forest head coach imminently after Nuno Espirito Santo departure. 60yo Australian will lead #NFFC for Saturday’s trip to Arsenal - joined by a number of staff worked with at Tottenham Hotspur @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/zOaGI5pzkO

Daniel Levy ruthlessly parted ways with Postecoglou two weeks after our Europa League success, with the former executive chairman citing our inability to compete on "multiple fronts" as the major reason for his departure.
In case you needed reminding, we finished 17th in the Premier League last season and lost 22 of our 38 games.
While his legacy is secure in north London due to our continental triumph, Postecoglou remains a hugely divisive figure to the rest of the footballing world. Overall, the majority will be sceptical of his capacity to oversee sustained success at the City Ground. His football: too bold and physically demanding. Injuries are regarded as a by-product of his idealism.
Nuno's Forest enjoyed the campaign they did last term as a result of impressive availability while the rest of the division suffered. However, Postecoglou does have a relatively deep squad to work with after Marinakis made a spate of signings towards the end of the window.
David Ornstein has confirmed the former Spurs manager will be in charge at the Emirates on Saturday, with the bulk of the staff he had in N17 joining him in his new role. We don't face Forest until December 13 away from home, and the reverse fixture isn't scheduled until March 21.
Will Ange still be in the role to enjoy his heroic return? Nothing is guaranteed with Marinakis pulling the strings. But hey, it's great to have him back in the Premier League.
