Ange not under any threat of losing his job
By Tom Vinall
Despite recent poor form, and generally not the best calendar year, the Telegraph have reported that current Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglu is not under threat of losing his job, and retains the internal support of the club.
There has been plenty of external noise regarding Ange, with everyone seeming to have an opinion, one way or the other, rightly or wrongly - but it looks like there is less debate from within the club, and that they are happy with the 59-year old that they appointed back in the summer of 2023.
Ange Postecoglu is being backed by the Tottenham hierarchy
According to the said report, Ange has already held transfer meetings with technical director Johan Lange, ahead of the upcoming January transfer window, and the consideration of potential reinforcements.
Whilst January is pretty close, there are still plenty of games to play before then. Six in fact. In three competitions. Spurs face Rangers in the Europa League this Thursday, before a Premier League game at Southampton on Sunday evening. After that, it is a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash at home to Manchester United on the 19th.
Then, the small matter of a home game against Liverpool on the 22nd, before a trip to Nottingham Forest on boxing day, and then a home game against Wolves on the 29th to conclude 2024.
So, there is still time for things to become beyond repair for Ange, though it seems like he is at the very least going to get his chance to get through these games. Problem is, you would not fancy Spurs against anyone at the moment. Not even Southampton. Russell Martin’s side have won one game this season – the same as Ipswich Town – and we all know who that was against.
Even with Rangers, they might be struggling in the SPFL this season, but they have had some big nights in Europe in recent years, and have beaten the likes of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig at Ibrox in this competition. That game is not easy, and is now a must win.
That too, and the games are coming thick and fast with a ridiculous injury list. The amount of players sidelined, either through injury, suspension, or illness, are making it impossible for Ange to properly rotate. As a result, the players are at even higher risk of injury, and making the absence list pile up even further.
