Spurs preparing bid for another Italian midfielder
By Tom Vinall
According to reports from the Italian media, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offer 35 million Euros for Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi.
They suggest that the 25-year old is highly regarded by Inter manager Simone Inzaghi, but due to the financial situation of the club, the hierarchy could be prepared to sell for the right offer, regardless of any protestations from the manager.
Spurs being linked to Italian midfielders is beginning to show some serious precedent. Only last week they were linked with a move to Juventus’ Nicolo Fagioli, and in the summer they were also linked to Manuel Locatelli from the old Lady.

In recent years, we have seen Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur make the switch from Turin to North London. There is the caveat that Antonio Conte was the manager back then. However – Fabio Paratici was the sporting director, and there are constantly reports suggesting, whilst no longer employed by the club – that the 52 year old still tries to help with recruitment in an unofficial role.
Generally, Italian players don’t like to leave Italy. Aside from English players, they probably move around the leagues less than any other top nation. In fact, in recent years, with the spike in English players moving abroad, it could be even less.
Still, there are exceptions to that, and Spurs would know with Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie. Having two compatriots and fellow Italian speakers could help in terms of making a move to N17 attractive.
One more thing that could work in the clubs favour, is that Frattesi has struggled for game time during his time in Milan so far. In his first season at the club last year, he only recorded six starts all season, and has started four of their fourteen games so far this term.
When it comes to play style, Frattesi is an energetic and mobile midfielder, who would suit the requirements of the current set up. Most impressively, he is a goalscorer. Despite, as mentioned above, only starting four league games this season, he has notched three goals.
Despite those six starts last time out, the Inter number 16 still registered six goals. For the Italy national team, he has found the back of the net eight times in just 25 appearances to date.
Whilst Kulusevski and James Maddison have began to chip in of late, it does still feel like Ange's side could do with a goalscoring midfielder. It is not as important as a defensive midfielder who can put out fires, but it should still be up there in the list of priorities. Let's see.
