Tottenham expectedly rejects Bayern Munich’s second bid for Kane
By Gary Pearson
According to the Times, Tottenham has rejected Bayern Munich’s recent €80 million bid, the German club’s second offer in as many weeks.
This comes as no surprise to anyone familiar with the situation. Bayern Munich yet again undercut Tottenham’s €100 million-or-more asking price, which could be perceived as an insult.
The back and forth continues, with the ball back squarely in Bayern’s possession. The German club will need to increase its bid by about €20 million for Daniel Levy to consider it seriously.
However, Sky Sports Germany’s reporter Florian Plettenberg believes Bayern Munich has the resolve to stick around and eventually convince Levy to sell.
That will, of course, depend on the amount the German champions are willing to offer. To ensure Kane becomes a Bayern player, they must break their club record transfer fee of €80 million for Lucas Hernandez in 2019-20.
Kane’s thirst to leave Tottenham has been well documented. While there shouldn’t be any sour grapes from supporters, Tottenham faithful are growing restless about the current to and fro between clubs.
Munich is chipping away at Levy’s resolve and continues to be a thorn in Tottenham’s side. Spurs leave for Australia on Friday, and Kane is expected to report for pre-season ongoings on July 12.
This saga will continue until either Bayern Munich withdraws its interest in Kane or Levy sells his most prized asset. Again, that is up to Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who will need to shell out at least €100 million to make this nightmare turn into reality.
Expect the transfer to be confirmed if Spurs receive a €100 million offer. While slightly below Levy’s asking price, it is a wad of cash that Levy shouldn’t refuse.
It will allow the club to sell Kane to a team not in direct competition while ensuring they cash in on the club legend before he walks for free at the end of next season.
