Who is Arnaut Danjuma? And what can he bring to Tottenham?

Finally, with just a week left in the transfer window, Tottenham has reportedly made their first move, with Arnaut Danjuma set to join from Villareal.

The Dutchman had previously, and until the last 24 hours, been set to join Everton; however, the sacking of Frank Lampard has supposedly shaken the winger, now opting for a last-minute switch to Tottenham instead.

At the moment, it’s unsure exactly what the terms of the deal are; however, Spurs are reportedly looking at inserting a buy option for the forward within an initial loan deal.

Danjuma joins a high-quality frontline of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Bryan Gil, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison, so he presumably won’t be a starter, but with the recent injuries has left Spurs short in that department, his presence will undoubtedly be a welcomed addition.

The Dutchman has put up strong numbers in recent years, with 17 goals and seven assists in the Championship in 2020/21, 16 goals and four assists in all competitions last season, and six goals in about 800 minutes of football this season.

Moreover, like Richarlison, Danjuma’s versatility in playing across the frontline is another desirable asset, as he can offer cover to each Kane, Son, and Kulusevski.

With six goals, Danjuma played a crucial role in Villareal’s run to last season’s Champions League semi-final, as alongside familiar face Giovanni Lo Celso; he helped his side overcome European heavyweights Juventus and Bayern Munich before being eliminated by Liverpool.

For Tottenham, we appear to be striking up a certain rapport with Villareal, completing deals for Lo Celso, Juan Foyth, Roberto Soldado, and now Danjuma in recent years, with this potentially being a good partnership to nourish moving forward.

Whilst it’s hard not to feel somewhat sorry for Everton, for Spurs fans, it’s finally nice to be on the “right” side of a transfer hijacking, as Danjuma certainly offers the cover and depth we are slightly lacking in attack.

Now, with one signing as good as through the door, hoping that could open the floodgates and start an influx, or at least one or two more signings this winter.

Ultimately, if, come to the end of January, Tottenham has signed Danjuma, Pedro Porro, and one more name; Nico Zaniolo or someone else, that would indeed be classed as a successful window and could give us the depth needed to kick on, secure top four, and maybe even win the FA Cup.
