Having won their group in the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur will be drawn in the Round of 16 on Monday, November 7; here are Spur’s six possible opponents.

After an up-and-down day in an up-and-down group, Tottenham Hotspur is advancing to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. Although a tie against Marseille would have been enough to push Spurs through, winning the group changed the prospects of who Tottenham could play considerably.

Tottenham avoided most of the big guns finishing first

Finishing first means that Tottenham will play one of the runners-up from one of the group stage. Had Spurs finished second, they would have had to face one of the winners, which is a much different task when we look at the draw.

Teams cannot play another team from their original group or home country. If Spurs finished second, they would be in the same position as Liverpool, with one of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Benfica, or Porto as possible options for the Reds. Napoli also is a seeded team, having won Liverpool’s group, along with Spurs, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Some tough draws exist in the possibilities for Tottenham

Although we know Spurs will not be playing Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the next round; there are still some tough draws among the six possible teams.

Eight teams are in the unseeded pot, with Frankfurt and Liverpool not options for Spurs. This leaves one of Club Brugge, Inter Milan, AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Dortmund, or PSG for Tottenham to be drawn with.

Most fans would think Club Brugge would be the favored draw, but we know they will go to Manchester City. Either Milan club would be interesting, particularly Inter, given the Antonio Conte connection. Leipzig, Dortmund, and PSG represent difficult match-ups.

We will know next week who Spurs are playing; for now, we must be content knowing who it might be.
