With the start of the transfer window still a fortnight away and lots of rumours swirling around Tottenham Hotspur, the reality is Spurs have one objective, improving their depth.

Tottenham Hotspur has a war chest to head into the transfer market. The £150m is before Spurs sell any players, so Fabio Paratici has a large purse to go shopping. With Antonio Conte seemingly signed on for seeing out his contract, Tottenham can focus on getting the Italian gaffer the players he needs to provide the depth Spurs desperately seek.

Spurs ended the season a bit short on players

If you look at the last three matches, following the crucial draw at Liverpool, Tottenham had four academy players in the squad. One could say that is good because it gives those players a little taste. Further, with the expanded, nine-man substitutes bench, even Manchester City has a few academy players at the end of the bench.

The difference is City is bringing on players Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling and can further leave £100m signing Jack Grealish on the bench. On the other hand, Spurs had Harvey White as the next midfielder up. Nothing against White, who may one day be an excellent midfielder for Tottenham, but the gap between him and Grealish is considerable.

Of course, Tottenham was missing four regulars are that point, whereas Dias was City’s only real absence. However, having anywhere from two to four players out at any given time is not unrealistic, especially at N17, where injuries seem to happen. In many positions, we have seen Spurs are only a single injury away from real trouble.
