Tottenham continues to tumble in 0-2 loss to Wolverhampton

After an excellent league start under Antonio Conte, Tottenham has regressed to the mean as Spurs continue to tumble in 0-2 loss to Wolverhampton in the EPL.
A week that started with real promise for Tottenham Hotspur ends in disappointment as Spurs fall for the second time in five days and third time in a row in the Premier League. Whatever momentum Tottenham had after a thrilling comeback against Leicester City and a decisive FA Cup win over Brighton is long gone. Spurs looked as poor as ever in an enervated effort.
Tottenham knew coming in would be difficult to score on Wolverhampton, who have conceded only 17 goals all season. However, Spurs’ defense was again the story of the game as more mistakes doomed the team before they even got started.
Tottenham concede again on the cross
Spurs looked to start brightly with Lucas Moura in the box and having his cross cut out by Jose Sa less than a minute into the game. However, a few minutes later, Wolves took command on a play eerily familiar to Tottenham fans.
After conceding two goals on a cross from just outside the box against Southampton, Spurs were again found wanting as Wolverhampton had time and space to get an early cross into the box. Later, a couple of poor perries from Hugo Lloris and Spurs were picking up Raul Jimenez‘s shot out of the net.
Lloris was not good, leaving the ball in a dangerous position. However, even a fraction of defensive pressure likely would have stopped the cross and the entire scenario to start.
Not satisfied conceding only one, Spurs decided to hand Wolves a second less than 20-minutes into the match. A poor ball from Matt Doherty – who was flat-out terrible – led to a worse pass from Lloris and then a disastrous ball from Ben Davies.
Even defenders of youth teams know that you kick it out when in doubt. However, Davies did the exact opposite and lobbed the ball up the middle to Wolves, putting the team under pressure, which led to yet another comical ball bouncing the wrong way for the team and a two-goal deficit.
Down two goals, Spurs tried to come back in the second half, sort of, although Sa was rarely trouble on the afternoon. The loss leaves Spurs floundering in the table as any chance at the top four floats away. With a trip to the champions coming up next, Spurs need to get fixed fast, or this fall will continue.
