Only days after a busy January transfer window came to a close, Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici shared some insight into the direction of Tottenham Hotspur.

Since the middle of the summer, Paratici has been in charge of football operations at Tottenham. Now, after a second transfer window, his vision is starting to come into focus. In sharing an interview with Spurs TV, we got a better picture of the thoughts and approach of Spurs head of football.

The players Paratici and Tottenham need

According to Paratici, there is more than skill involved in the recruiting process for players. Characteristics like motivation, intensity, and ambitiousness were words Paratici used to describe the players he was looking to sign. Those are also words Fabio used to describe the club’s two most recent signings, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Bringing in players who will play with personality and fight a lot for themselves and the club are the kind of players Spurs need. A perfect example of this within the club is Hugo Lloris. Hugo’s traits, like his character, intelligence and ambition, made Paratici’s decision to resign the Frenchman an easy one.

Paratici on Conte and the project

Overall, the key to much of what Paratici said in his interview was asking for time and patience. Paratici noted his longstanding relationship with Antonio Conte and how the two have achieved tremendous results together. Paratici is counting on those previous results to buy him some time and frankly, bringing in Conte makes Paratici a legend in some circles.

Despite asking for time and patience, it is clear that Paratici is also keenly aware of and focused on the current task at hand. When asked about the summer, the Italian scoffed about the January market just ending and, more importantly, the three to four tough months ahead.

The understanding of both the current and the future is evident when Paratici speaks, and it instills confidence in the club’s leadership and direction, which is a breath of fresh air for Tottenham and its supporters.
