Giovani Lo Celso is the latest Tottenham player to be sent out on loan, as the deal with Villarreal has just been confirmed, via Fabrizio Romano.

He joins Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli as outgoing senior-player loanees. All three senior players will ply their trade for various other teams. Bryan Gil is another player going out on loan, with the youngster set to join Valencia.

Unai Emery is a huge admirer of Lo Celso’s and will be delighted to get the deal over the line. Most of Tottenham’s supporters won’t be too aggrieved to see the Argentine leave Hotspur Way, as he never reached his full potential in the almost three years he spent at the club.

While Lo Celso made more of an impact than Ndombele, he was still plagued by injuries and inconsistency. He only managed eight goals to go along with six assists in 84 appearances.

In truth, he never came close to fulfilling the lofty expectations that came with his relatively high price tag when he was purchased from Real Betis in 2019. Antonio Conte wanted to clean house and get an injection of new blood into the club, which, to some extent, he has done.

Maybe, with some concerted match time back in Spain, he will return to Tottenham and finally live up to they hype.

The details of the loan are still murky, so it’s unclear whether there is a to-buy clause included. Lo Celso may still return to Tottenham, though we’ll have to wait to read the fine print before ascertaining as much.

Bryan Gil is the other Tottenham player going out on loan to a Spanish team. The young 20-year-old will play at Valencia until the end of the season, but will return to Hotspur Way once the loan deal is complete.
