As Giovani Lo Celso’s loan deal to Lyon broke down, Tottenham replaced the Argentine with a Frenchman, and it’s now likely Tanguy Ndombele will end up there instead.

The last 48 hours of the transfer period has not disappointed, with a frenzy of activity from Fabio Paratici and company. And Spurs are certainly not done yet. On the back of confirming the Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur deals, new developments have occurred in Tottenham’s quest to send Lo Celso and Tanguy out on loan.

Ndombele, who was strongly linked to PSG, is now probably on the move to Lyon, where Lo Celso was expected to end up. The Lo Celso deal broke down due to the player’s personal preference. The deal was all but done until Lo Celso scuppered it.

Now Tottenham are in “advanced talks” with Lyon about signing Ndombele. However, unlike PSG, Lyon is not willing to pay the entirety of the Frenchman’s salary, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the distinct financial gulf between them and PSG.

Also, a deal seeing a club pay all of Tanguy’s swollen salary always felt a slightly too good to be true. This is not a confirmed deal, and we know how dangerous the two words nearing “advanced talks” can be.

They provide a false sense of assuredness and security and sometimes lead to nothing, making the disappointment even more palpable. But there is a few strong indications that Tanguy-to-Lyon will be confirmed int the coming hours, particularly with Tottenham being amenable to paying a portion of his salary.

Villarreal making final push for Lo Celso

Villarreal is making a final push to land Lo Celso on loan, a place the Argentine is thought to be keen on moving, at least in the short term. TalkSport is more confident about the latest negotiations, saying Villarreal have “agreed a deal” to sign Lo Celso. Let’s wait and see, but that conviction is incredibly promising.

Next. Recent failed transfers were years in the making. dark

This prospective loan deal hasn’t yet progressed to an advanced stage, so both clubs still have a lot to do in just 30 hours. But seeing what Spurs have accomplished in the last 24 hours makes this loan deal a distinct possibility.
