New Tottenham coach Nuno Espirito Santo typically employed a back-three on defense at Wolverhampton, so what might three in the back look like for Spurs?

Over the course of 199 matches with Wolverhampton, Nuno Santo used a back three or back five formations over 90% of the time according to transfermarkt.com. It was only really since November 2020 that you even see four back formations appear in Santo’s record at Wolves. The point is, given the record, it is very logical to think Nuno would want to use a back three or five formations with Tottenham Hotspur.

We are in no way advocating that things need to change, however, given Nuno’s background with Wolves and some of the Spur’s talent at the position, one has to wonder what Tottenham might look like with three center-halves on the pitch.

Here we take a look at different ways Tottenham could line up with three in the back.
