After an incredibly successful week and an undefeated start, this Watford match may seem easy to overlook, however, the game is very important to Tottenham Hotspur for many reasons.

First, Harry Kane made his stay at Tottenham Hotspur official, and then he proceeded to score two goals helping Spurs advance in the Conference League. Add to that a 2-0 start and the start to the season has been good for the Lilywhites. However, a loss against Watford right before the break would squash this early momentum the Spurs are trying to leverage, which is just one of many reasons, Watford’s visit on Sunday is vitally important for Tottenham.

A good start for the new coach

As much as anything, with all the turmoil this summer regarding the coaching searching and Harry Kane’s non-transfer, it was really important for new Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo and Tottenham get off to a good start. Fortunately, two from two in the Premier League and advancing to the Group Stage was about as good of a start as anyone could have hoped for.

Now with the chance to go 3-0 in the Premier League for the first time since 2018/19, as well as the first time under a new coach in the Premier League era, a win on Sunday can really help set this start apart for Nuno and the club.  Arthur Rowe back in 1949 has been to date the only Spurs coach to start 3-0 in the league. So another win before the break can truly make this a great start under Nuno.

Here are two more reasons this early Watford match is a big game and opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur.
