With about 40 days left in the Summer 2021 transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur has yet to sign any new players, but the rumors are growing.

Things are seemingly heating up for Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer market as in the last week, Tottenham has been connected to at least five different transfers. The old saying goes, where there is smoke there is likely fire but Spurs fans have yet to see any flames as the wait for new blood coming in and deadwood going out continues.

Tottenham transfer rumors this week

In the last week, rumors have continued around Danny Ings coming to Tottenham as well as Takehiro Tomiyasu joining the squad. There are certainly pros and cons to signing Danny Ings but he would be the best second striker or backup Harry Kane would have had the fortune to play with at Tottenham.

Ings has been a long-term target for Spurs going back several seasons. However, the latest news in Europe is that Ings wants to move to Manchester – City or United – according to talkSPORT.

As for Tomiyasu, his link to Tottenham is new to this summer, however, the ongoing effort to sign him makes it seem like a long-term target. A full week ago, we believed Tottenham was about to announce Tomiyasu as the newest member of the team. However, a week on and that is still not the case and the wait continues.

Some new targets linked with Tottenham

Although we continue to wait, some new names have begun to surface as targets for new football director Fabio Paratici. Over the last couple of days, two Atalanta BC players have been linked with the Lilywhites.

Cristian Romero is a young (23) center-back coming off a wonderful season at Atalanta. His performances over the last year earned him a call-up with Argentina where he played over 250 minutes in the Copa America triumph. After having lost Juan Foyth to Sevilla this summer adding Romero would be a nice replacement. Of course, Tottenham is going to have to pay upwards of $40 million (£29 million) for him.

Romero is just one of several center-backs linked with Tottenham this summer, so who really knows. Alternatively, his teammate Pierluigi Gollini is a goalkeeper and one of the few to be linked seriously with the club.

At 26, Gollini is the era-apparent to Hugo Lloris who is reportedly coming to N17 initially on loan with an option to buy. None other than the Spurs’ own mouthpiece Ali Gold was reporting these Atalanta connections, giving the rumors some real traction and believability.

Finally, the biggest rumor to hit the news this week was the transfer and trade of Erik Lamela to Sevilla in exchange for young winger Bryan Gil. The Spaniard attacker is currently with Spain at the Olympics but was not at Euro 2020 with his nation despite three caps. Last season Gil was on loan away from Sevilla with Eibar assisting on three goals and scoring four.

As a young (20) and exciting attacking player, Gil has certainly gotten folks’ attention on Twitter, particularly after Fabrizio Romano said it was a done deal.

Yet, like so many coaches previously and links before, we are a day later and there is still no first to accompany all the smoke. Exciting transfer links are nice actually signing players is even better. Hopefully, this smoke is not just a screen and is indicative of the fire to come with Tottenham bagging some targets.
