Tottenham is one step closer to securing Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentine made his desire to leave PSG official.

According to Goal, Pochettino has told PSG’s hierarchy that he intends on leaving the club after just five months in charge. While an inevitable development, this represents yet another milestone in Tottenham’s quest to hand Pochettino the keys to the north London castle.

It doesn’t mean Tottenham will realize their goal of rehiring their most successful manager in the last decade, as Real Madrid still have a ton to say about which club Pochettino decides to commit his future to. Hypothetically, you’d think the latest development puts the ball well and truly in Pochettino’s court. But PSG can, and probably will make it difficult for the gaffer to leave.

His contentious decision is not sitting well with PSG, but in the end, for the betterment of the club, they will be forced to let Pochettino leave. Tottenham and Real Madrid’s will and resources to make the deal happen will not be suppressed or denied. Also, it’s counterproductive, even severely damaging, to hold on to a manager that wants out.

So now Pochettino has a gargantuan decision to make. Whichever side of the Antonio Conte or Mauricio Pochettino side of the fence you sit, a decision should be reached soon, probably in less than two weeks, before the commencement of Euro 2020.

Next. Tottenham should not sell midfielder. dark

At this point it’s hard to predict where the chips will fall, especially as Pochettino has always conveyed his desire to one day manage the Galacticos. Will his desire to complete unfinished business in London and reunite with Spurs and his family supersede his ambition to take the helm at Santiago Bernabéu?

If you’ve missed any of the recent developments, here they are:

That’s something only Pochettino can answer. But we sit on pins and needles with anticipation, awaiting what amounts to one of the most consequential decisions for Tottenham in the Premier League era.
