If Sergio Aguero leaves Manchester City surely Harry Kane has to stay at Tottenham

260 is the big number we all know about Alan Shearer’s Premier League mark for most career goals. While Sergio Agüero – the only active player in the Premier League with more goals than Harry Kane – has no chance at catching Shearer’s mark, Kane does. However, if Tottenham fans are concerned about one more season from Harry Kane at N17, there is a different Premier League mark they should be talking about.

Record of Interest to Tottenham?

Only Wayne Rooney has more goals with one club than Sergio Agüero. Rooney scored 183 goals across his 13 seasons at Old Trafford, the most ever by one player at a single club in Premier League history. Sergio Agüero actually has a chance to eclipse this mark this season as the Argentine has 181 goals only two off Rooney’s one-team mark.

Even if Agüero breaks that mark this season both Manchester City and Agüero have announced this is his last season with the club. in some respects it should be a given that Agüero will break that mark this season, however, the Argentine has only made nine appearances and scored once in those nine matches.

Agüero is healthy now but seems unlikely to break the record by much more than a few goals. This is important to Tottenham because that career goal with a single club mark is one Kane can get next season.

Harry Kane will pass Rooney next season

At 164 goals for his career, Harry Kane is only 19 goals behind Wayne Rooney’s 183 goal mark.  Kane has averaged .68 goals per match in his Premier League career. At that pace, Kane will pass Rooney in about 28 games. With only 19 goals and not quite 3/4 of a season to go to etch his name into the all-time Premier League record book, is now the time to leave? As a Tottenham fan, I sure hope not.

Of course, no one should expect Kane to stay just to break individual records as we know he wants to win trophies. This is where Sunday becomes important with the League Cup final, against none other than Sergio Agüero and Manchester City. Kane is injured and may or may not play but the trophy would be a trophy nonetheless.

Kane, Tottenham on the Cusp?

Ultimately, we fans want to see all three. We want to see Kane lift the Carabao Cup on Sunday. We want to see Kane stay at least one more season at Tottenham Hotspur. And we want to see Kane pass Wayne Rooney for the most goals with one club in Premier League history. If to dare is to do, these are three things we hope Harry Kane has the daring to accomplish.
