Tottenham Hotspur have had their ups and downs this season, but are still playing for a lot on three fronts. With the opportunity to still accomplish several goals this season, the only thing that should matter from here on out for Spurs, regardless of competition, is the next game.

Every Match the Playoffs for Tottenham

There are no playoffs in professional football in Europe but there are certainly payoffs for a teams hard work and success. Instead of advancing to a winner take a second trophy tournament to end the season, success one season domestically means more opportunity the next for that team. With both making something special out of the season and having all the opportunities we want next season, Tottenham can ill afford to not play every match from here on out to win.

They always play to win right?

Yes, the coach, the players, they always do play to win we know that. However, there is also a point a player or team reaches where things start to change either positively or negatively. Having fallen in the table from first to 10th, Tottenham could start packing for the offseason or buck up and fight. Clearly we have seen a Tottenham team willing to fight for themselves and each other since falling a couple goals behind West Ham.

Can Tottenham continue to play with that same hunger they have shown over the last 120 Premier League minutes? We are not sure but they kind of have too at this point.

Tottenham have 13 games left in the Premier League, assuming they need 70 points to reach top four that means taking 31 points or ~2.4 points per match. 31 points from 13 games leave very little margin for error, meaning each game is vital and Spurs can ill afford to lose any.

Likewise, to continue to advance in Europa League, Tottenham simply need to win. While they can still in theory lose a match and still advance by winning the alternate leg by more than they lost. However, at this point, the best bet is to work to winning every moment of every match. As Spurs know from both sides of the coin, giving up the too many goals at home can ruin things. With potentially seven matches still to go in Europa League, every one has to be played like a final.

Every game should be treated like a final by Tottenham

Speaking of final, there is that one other match Spurs have in that third competition, that final in the League Carabao Cup against Manchester City. Sure City might be the greatest team since Jordan’s Bulls or they could just be beatable again.

To be prepared for the pressure of a must win one game situation, that is the way Spurs simply need to treat every game the rest of the way. Walking on coals and making a game bigger than it is does not get a team ready. Rather, earning to win, every match, every game on form or off is what prepares a team for winning finals.

If Tottenham hope to win a final or maybe more than one and still reach top four, there is only one path, consistent winning. Consistent winning only comes when the next match, regardless of opponent or competition is the most important.
