Young Tottenham Hotspur Star on Move Following Loan
By Aaron Coe
This is how loans are supposed to work, you put some young talent in the shop window and a bit later they are on loan, so it went for Tottenham and Harvey White.
Harvey White is a 19-year-old midfielder who just made his full Tottenham Hotspur senior debut just over a week ago in the FA Cup win over Marine. Now White is on the move with a Loan to Portsmouth FC in League One. After spending most of the last year training with the senior team at N17 and finally getting a full 90 minutes in the FA Cup, this move gives the young midfielder an excellent opportunity to experience a promotion battle.
Portsmouth in it
Portsmouth FC is battling to get promoted to the Championship. League One, the third tier of English football, is an interesting mix of up-and-coming teams and teams that once were. Hull City and Sunderland were both in the Premier League not that long ago and are now trying to force their way back up the football pyramid.
Pompey currently sit 3rd in League one on 38 points, four off first place Lincoln City. With a game in hand, Portsmouth are in theory only 1 point back and ahead of Hull but must win that game in hand to be in the promotion position. With Portsmouth smack in the middle of a field with 10 teams within 10 points of first place, there is plenty to play for.
Like in the Championship, the top two sides win automatic promotion and the next four battle out in a playoff for that last place a table up. Currently with the best goal difference in the League, Portsmouth and White both are hoping the young midfielder can help the club take that next step.
A Chance for White to Shine
According to the Blues website, coach Kenny Jackett believes White is ready saying that “after breaking through and working with the Tottenham first team over the past year, he’s now 100 per cent ready to feature in the EFL”. Portsmouth are particularly excited about White’s left foot and his ability as “a set-piece specialist, with a very good range of passing” according to Jacket.
In fact, Pompey is already aware of White’s prowess on free kicks scoring one in a youth game back in 2018, which is now highlighted on Portsmouth’s twitter account.
Ultimately, this is a particularly good move for Harvey White, as he showed he may have something and then someone came a calling. If White can get real playing time and experience in a battle for promotion it will be an excellent move all-around and likely pave the way for a loan in the Championship next season ala Oliver Skipp. Good luck to Portsmouth FC and Harvey White, here is hoping for an excellent loan experience for all involved.
