Tottenham exploded for four goals in a 13-minute span during the first half to brush pass Marine 5-0, booking their place in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Grand Canyon-sized chasm between the two sides was evident after Carlos Vinicius scored the away side’s opener on 24 minutes. Marine kept things tight, even hitting the bar from a wicked Kengni strike, before Vinicius poked home from close range thanks to a lovely, deft Dele Alli assist.

The out-of-favour Englishman dominated proceedings in the first half, picking a wide range of passes with aplomb. Alli assisted on three of four Tottenham first half goals, while Vinicius scored a hat trick on his first three attempts on goal.

Alli showed his obvious superiority, and acquitted himself well against Marine, a side eight tiers below Spurs. Never in the FA Cup’s storied history have two clubs met with a wider discrepancy. What some pundits described as a no-win situation for Tottenham turned out to yield numerous positives for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Alli enjoyed his time as the maestro in the centre of the park, Lucas Moura got back on the score sheet, Vinicius bagged a hat trick, Gareth Bale returned from injury and 16-year-old Alfie Devine scored on his debut. Spurs also avoided being bit by the injury bug.

All in all, Jose’s side enjoyed an accomplished afternoon in what appeared to be a thankless task in the lead up.

dark. Next. Tottenham have ace up their sleeves for Carabao Cup Final

Devine, who entered proceedings at the start of the second half, showed great promise in his senior debut. He lashed home his first goal with confidence after just 15 minutes of match time.

Tottenham will leave Merseyside content with a solid outing against a side 161 places below them in league standings.

Now it’s on to Aston Villa for a tricky Premier League outing on Wednesday against a side trailing Spurs by just three points.
