After not playing in over a year and then mostly playing internationally in 2019, Alex Morgan made her debut for Tottenham Hotspur Women in a 1-1 draw.

Alex Morgan is a name that demands attention in the sports world. Not just in the world of female sports, but the world of sports, period. While 31, coming off the birth of a child and not playing competitively all year, Morgan coming on for the Spurs Women was a big deal.

Tottenham Hotspur Women have only been in the top division – the FA Women’s Super League for now two seasons and have yet to win a game, but Morgan’s appearance today was a victory for the club. At the same time Gareth Bale was drawing much attention for potentially moving back to N17, it was the multi-World Cup winning goal scoring machine who signed first for the team.

Besides, limited matches – 25 in all competitions in 2019 – and having a baby in the summer, Morgan has been working to recover from a significant knee injury. It has been the recovery from the injury, more than anything that has kept Morgan from making her bow with Spurs to this point.

Now that the big moment of playing again is over, Morgan noted to the Hotspur Official website that she needs to work on her fitness so she can play more from the beginning of the match. Morgan noted that the openness of the late stages were not something she was quite ready for. The good news is that despite not helping the team win, Spurs Women did come back and draw Reading and Alex Morgan passed all the physical and mental tests that come with playing again after so long out.

Hopefully for both Morgan and Tottenham Hotspur Women, the next steps are for her to rediscover her goal scoring magic and bring a first victory of the year to Spurs.
