Signing Joe Hart is a good move for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur continue to build their squad ahead of the new season under Jose Mourinho, and that now includes adding a new goalkeeper.

Spurs have already made a bargain signing by bringing in former Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and now they are set for another affordable move.

According to Sky Sports News, free agent goalkeeper Joe Hart is having a medical ahead of a move to Tottenham.

This is a smart move by Spurs for a couple of reasons.

First of all, Hart provides some competition, which is never a bad thing. Hugo Lloris is unlikely to lose his spot as the starting keeper anytime soon, especially after a bounce-back season, but Hart can compete with Paulo Gazzaniga for the backup job.

Hart hasn’t played regular first-team football in a while, having only played 38 Premier League games over the past three seasons, including zero starts for Burnley last season.

But what Hart does bring to Tottenham is experience. Hart has played at the highest level with 340 Premier League starts and over 30,000 minutes to his name. He also has 75 caps for England.

Hart won the Premier League Golden Glove award four times with Manchester City, which goes to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the season. He was also part of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year twice. With City, Hart won two Premier League titles.

It’s been a while since Hart was a number one keeper for a top-tier club, but he has great experience and would make a good number two or three behind Lloris at Tottenham.

Another reason to sign Hart is with the “Home Grown Players” criteria. Premier League teams can only have a maximum of 17 overseas players in the squad. Signing Hart would give Tottenham another homegrown player.

What are your thoughts, is signing Hart a good move?
