Twitter Tuesday: Tottenham supporters react to win over Chelsea
By Gary Pearson
Tottenham extended their lead over Chelsea to eight points with their first win at Stamford Bridge in 27 years, and the mood on Twitter reflected the club’s joy in the aftermath of the historic win.
What a difference two months can make
A few months ago Spurs were on the outside of the top four peering in. They were eight points behind Chelsea and even trailed the Gunners. Just look at what kind of difference two months can make. As Marc poignantly puts it, Mauricio Pochettino has assembled a squad full of resilience, camaraderie, belief, and character. It’s a joyous time to be a Spurs supporter.
Harry Kane, leader on and off the pitch
This short clip says all you need to know about Harry Kane. Spurs’ talisman is a leader both on and off the pitch, showing the kind of character champions are made of. He reacts to Dele Alli’s go-ahead goal with a passion of a devout supporter sitting in the stands. Pure joy and adrenaline were on display, exactly the way I feel when watching this clip repeatedly.
Dele Alli deserves more respect
Seema sums it up nicely. Naysayers and those who criticize Dele Alli seem to forget that he’s still only 21 years old. His astronomical rise with Spurs has seen him achieve a better goal-scoring and assists record than Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, David Beckham, and Paul Scholes at the same early stage of their careers.
Here’s a piece I wrote about Alli almost a year ago to the day. Gareth Southgate should lose his job if he doesn’t start Alli for every World Cup 2018 match.
Next: Spurs go eight points ahead of Chelsea
Sayonara Chelsea
While fourth place is by no means wrapped up, Spurs took a giant step toward their ultimate goal on Easter Sunday. The gap between them and Chelsea is now eight points with six matches to play. And remember, Spurs haven’t lost in 2018, so losing three games in six matches is almost as unlikely as Manchester City letting their grasp on the title slip.
