Victimized by United’s defensive stubbornness, Tottenham have failed to score in five of their last seven battles with Mourinho’s men.
While United are unbeaten in six top flight tests, that record is somewhat tarnished by three successive draws – against Leicester, Burnley and Southampton – during the final week of 2017.
Similar to last season, United travel to Spurs boasting one of the best away records, losing only twice on their travels thus far. They’ve racked up 24 of a possible 36 points away from Old Trafford, good for third best in the league.
Tottenham by the numbers
The Lilywhites have lost only once at Wembley this season, but are plagued by four draws. One loss in their last 10 Premier League matches should help restore confidence in the Tottenham camp.
Spurs have kept three clean sheets in six recent encounters, outscoring their opponents 16-4 during that span.
Harry Kane is a strike away from scoring his 100th Premier League goal. According to PremierLeague.com, none of the 26 players who have achieved that feat reached the milestone against United.
Kane has scored 30 goals in as many appearances this season, including 21 in the Premier League. The 24-year-old is three ahead of Mohamed Salah atop the goal-scoring chart.

Tottenham got the better of United the last time Mourinho’s side came calling, a 2-1 victory in the final home game at White Hart Lane. Spurs will be back within striking distance of United with a win, decreasing the disparity to five points.
Replicating that result on Wednesday at Wembley will help eradicate the lingering bitter taste left by drawing League 2 Newport on the weekend.
