Tottenham vs. PSG: The US tour commences and where to watch
By Gary Pearson
Finally back to chatting about actual football, Spurs play their first meaningful – if that’s at all possible in July – pre-season match, as they prepare to face PSG in Orlando on Saturday.
The US pre-season tour, dubbed the International Champions Cup, sounds more official and important than it actually is. It does, however, provide a glimpse into how preparations are coming along for a Spurs team whose first Premier League match is just over three weeks away.
Tottenham’s tour team
As everybody knows by now, Spurs travel to the US devoid of any new personnel additions. Moussa Sissoko has been left at home, the club citing lack of fitness, or some type of mysterious virus depending on who you ask, as the main reason for his absence.
Whichever way you slice it, the enigmatic and erratic Sissoko will not make an appearance while Tottenham are Stateside, fuelling more transfer speculation.
Danny Rose, Erik Lamela and Heung-Min Son are missing due to lingering injury concerns. While Lamela has been partaking in full fitness activities on Hotspur Way, he’s not quite ready to test it out at match speed.
A setback in May to Rose’s disconcerting knee injury has some around the club worried about his future longterm fitness, and whether the first-choice England left-back will return with the same agility, shiftiness and breakneck speed he possessed pre-injury.
Son is still recovering from the broken arm he suffered against Qatar during international duty with South Korea in June. His recovery is coming along well and is set to return soon after the season starts.
Young English talent, Marcus Edwards, is also not joining his team for the tour, as Spurs haven’t agreed a contract extension with the 18-year-old.
To get some match time and to promote Spurs brand across the pond, all the other top dawgs are in contention for each International Champions Cup match.

PSG team news and pre-season updates
PSG, akin to almost every other top European side, has been more active than Tottenham during the summer months.
The biggest news coming out of their camp is the signing of marquee right-back Dani Alves from Juventus. Alves should make his PSG debut in the US, but his selection against Tottenham on Saturday hasn’t been confirmed yet. Though the 34-year-old is in the twilight of his career, nobody can deny the impact he made at Barcelona and Juventus.
Marco Veratti, amongst rampant transfer speculation, remains a PSG player. Serge Aurier, Hatem Ben Arfa and Grzegorz Krychowiak have been left at home. Otherwise, PSG have all their weapons at the ready for the upcoming tour.
Reports are gaining steam of Neymar’s impending departure from Barcleona. If he leaves the Catalan club, PSG is his likely destination.
